Bewick’s swan coming in to land at Slimbridge. Canon 1Dx. 800mm lens. 1/5000th at f8. 1600 iso. The 1Dx camera continues to impress me with its autofocus locking on to things I feel it has no right to. However this swan was an easy subject. Large, slow and heading into the wind it could almost be done with a manual focus lens. In fact we used to!

Muntjac D0258

Strange looking deer Muntjac. Sometimes they appear no larger than a rabbit when you only get a glimpse of one and they are capable of hiding themselves away in the smallest bush. On other occasions they appear large enough to confuse with Roe deer. Both appear in large numbers on the estate where I photograph. They like apples and potatoes and will visit a baited site frequently.

Goldfinch D0598

At one point they were forecasting snow during today, but now the forecast has put it back to overnight snow. All too often it snows during the night, which is a great pity. This was taken the last time it snowed heavily which was a wonderful day from the comfort of a wooden hide. Canon EOS 1Dx. 800mm lens. 1600 iso 1/500th at f9.
