Kingfisher, Alcedo atthis

I normally photograph kingfishers on the lake as it is easier to work there. The water levels remain constant and there is more light. This however is taken on the river where, if it rains, it will flood and make life difficult and there is no shortage of fish so the bird can go to many fishing perches. I have only done one session with the bird so far and as it was a dull day so do not know when the morning sun will reach the site. Canon Eos 1dx. 400mm f4.6 lens. 800 iso. 1/200th at f11.

Blackcaps do not come into every feeder and I have not had many opportunities to do over wintering birds. In a friends back garden there was at least one male and one female in the latter part of the winter. Apples are the main draw, but they like soft suet too and grapes. Canon EOS 1dx. 800mm. 1/320th at f8. 800 iso. Taken from a hide and I did get natural looking shoots on nearby branches rather than on the fruit directly.
